Ketsufure is the Japanese twerk video we never knew we needed.
We’ve written a lot about the struggles of women in Japanese society, where females are banned from taking part in certain activities and married women are legally required to take their husband’s surname. Thankfully, though, feminism is gradually taking hold here, as women feel bolder about unapologetically living their lives outside of the stereotypical box society wants to place them in.
One of those women breaking out of the box is Yayoi Daimon, a Japanese singer-songwriter who describes herself as an Asian Dancehall Queen and a JAPANESE FEMINIST in all caps on her Instagram account.
Daimon, who’s currently living in Los Angeles, first made her major debut in 2010, when she was chosen from 2,000 dancers on the Tokyo TV audition programme “Welcome TV” to become a member of dance/vocal unit “Rhythmic”. Since going solo in 2012, the 28-year-old has garnered a huge following of fans both abroad and in Japan, and is recognised as a talented singer, songwriter, DJ, dancer, choreographer, model, actress and producer.
Now she’s got everyone in a trance with a new music video called “Ketsufure“. Ketsufure literally combines the words “ketsu” (“ass“) and “fure” (“shake“), which translates to something like “shake dat ass“, but this is 2019 so Daimon prefers to call it “Japanese Twerk“.
Are you ready for the beat? Turn on the subtitles and check out the video below!
Now that we’ve got “ketsu fure fure fure” spinning around in our heads for the rest of the day, let’s take a look at those lyrics again. The song starts with Daimon singing into a mic which later turns into a banana…
And as we get into the first of the song’s many “fures”, Daimon sticks her tongue out with a length that Miley Cyrus would envy.

Then it’s time to list the places where people should twerk. On the train ketsu fure, on the floor ketsu fure, and at the Family Mart convenience store ketsu fure.
▼ The subs got it wrong here – we need to twerk at the Famima konbini.

Produced by JEKA! JEKA!, who co-wrote the lyrics with Yayoi Daimon for the remix, “Ketsufure” was released as a fun summer party hit to get people twerking around the world.
▼ Daimon worked alongside L.A.-based dancer YURISA for the clip.
The plan to get people twerking globally appears to have worked, as people around the world have fallen in love with Daimon and the Ketsufure beat. We can’t wait to see what she gets up to next!
