New dessert drink promises to recreate the joy of biting into a ripe, juicy peach.
Summer, at least in the bright-sunshine-and-blue-sky sense of the season, is getting off to a bit of a late start here in Japan, with an extended rainy season keeping conditions cool and overcast. Thankfully for those of us longing for a bit more summer fun, though, Starbucks is rolling out a new dessert drink with one of the season’s tastiest fruits.
With the just-unveiled Peach on the Beach Frappuccino, Starbucks Japan says it’s recreated the sensation of eating a peach, but in Frappuccino form. How? By mixing large pieces of juicy white peach into the drink, which is further enhanced with peach juice, peach puree, and peach sauce, giving you all the moist, sweet bliss of biting into a ripe, just-picked peach. The drink even looks the part, with swirled shades of light and dark pink bringing to mind the enticing patterns on the skin of a peach.

This isn’t Starbucks Japan’s first-ever Frappuccino with peach notes, as a few years back Nectarine Peach Cream Frappuccinos briefly graced the chain’s menu. While the first-mentioned fruit was the main star, the nectarine Frappuccinos also had a peach strawberry syrup drizzled over it. The new Peach on the Beach, however, is all peach all the time, and should be a purer, sweeter experience, and it’s one we’re looking to try while they’re on sale, priced at 620 yen (US$5.70) between July 19 and August 29.
