French baguettes, garbage bags, and dozens of painted eggs are just some of the ingenious props used to get the job done in this golden anime spoof video.
The opening notes of the Sailor Moon theme song “Moonlight Densetsu [Legend]” are sure to stir up nostalgia for many an anime fan who grew up in the 1990s, especially since the English-language and other foreign versions kept the original Japanese melody. Over the years we’ve seen various arrangements on that tune, including this one with traditional Japanese instruments, but rarely do we see the type of effort and determination it takes to make a loving parody based not on the music, but on the visuals instead.
Until now, that is. Prepare to have your socks knocked off by the following 1-minute, 19-second video clip that’s a fully faithful, second-by-second adaptation of the famous opening theme animation. We haven’t seen since this kind of sheer creative genius since that legendary low-budget cosplay guy in Thailand!

The original parody was posted by Twitter user @Miss_Yubari and then subsequently went viral in Japan when it was reposted by Japanese user @minnano_dougaww, who said “I laughed so hard at this…I can’t decide if it’s a high or low level of perfection.”
We certainly hope the three full-grown dudes involved in the video have earned the recognition they deserve in their home country, but at least they’re definitely internet-famous in Japan now, where comments online have included:
“This is the most I’ve laughed at a video in ten years!”
“Well, they’ve succeeded in conveying their passion…”
“This deserves punishment in the name of the moon.”
“The bread is the real star here!”
“I absolutely lost it at ‘Luna’ at the end.”
