If I saw this inside my mikan, I don’t think I’d be angry.
Let’s face it: hamsters and food are an excellent pair. Not only do they look silly trying to stuff large amounts of food into their cheeks (like cat food and broccoli), but they also look cute inside food.
Here to prove that point is Twitter user @hamudog5, who uploaded this video featuring a hamster that made its new home inside the skin of a mikan, or mandarin orange.
▼ I hope you weren’t looking for a nice citrus snack.

It’s a bit of a mystery how the hole was made so skillfully without leaving any trace of the actual citrus fruit behind. There’s a small hole on the very bottom of the fruit, so maybe the owner is holding it together with their palm. Maybe the little critter ate the fruit itself. However it ended up that way, it’s one of the cutest things we’ve seen so far in 2019.
If you’re thinking of trying a similar trick, though, be warned. Your hamster shouldn’t be eating the skin!
▼ “By the way, you’re not supposed to feed the skin to your hamster. The fruit itself is safe to eat. This hamster in particular isn’t eating the skin, so it’s okay.”

ちなみにみかんの皮はハムスターに与えてはいけないのでご注意ください。実は大丈夫です。勿論この子にも皮を与えるようなことはしていません。

Netizens have done everything from squeal in delight to make excellent puns.
“Whaaaaat this is so cuuuuute!”
“Hamster + Mikan = Hamikan.”
“I want to climb in there with it!”
“This is so cute, it’s unfair. But when you consider that you shouldn’t let hamsters eat tangerine skin, it’s a little scary.”
“Where can I buy this!?”
“This is the Year of the Hamster!”
Once again, we learn that hamsters can show up in some strange places, whether it’s mikan skins or the inside of a stuffed animal. But they always look cute doing it!
