With bright aesthetics and a feel-good remix of the classic theme, this commercial will have you leaping, twirling and climbing through the levels of your daily life!
Video games have always been a great way to blow off some steam, and that’s in part because they’re a great way to escape from the daily grind by trouncing enemies as a muscle-bound superhero or capturing fuzzy little monsters and…making them fight your enemies instead.
But in Nintendo’s latest commercial for their newest Mario game, New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, they opted to show how you can bring a little of that video game magic into your every day commute.

In the most recent edition of the side-scrolling platformer, up to four different players can join in the fun, nabbing coins and bopping bad guys as they travel through more than 150 zany courses. The commercial chooses to show all the fun ways you can replicate Mario, Luigi, Peach and friends by hopping over puddles, twirling in the air and even by walking your dogs with LED-light leashes.
▼ You can practically hear the jump SFX!
The cute colorful backgrounds of the game itself are a natural segue from the bright, joyful clips of friends gamboling across a hill together.

The game hits shelves from January 11 and will retail for 5,980 yen (US$53.98) in Japan, with other locales setting their own prices. With all this action crammed into 160 different courses and with five different heroes to choose from, you’ll want to rope all your family and friends in to join the fun!
▼ Just a taste of all the levels you can explore
Fans poured in with praise for the quirky commercial:
“Love this ad!”
“The remix of the main theme rules!”
“The kids slipping and sliding on that hill are too cute LOL”
And of course, comparisons were drawn:
There’s plenty of time to organize your room into the perfect Mario Party paradise before the game comes out, and then you and your pals can collect Super Crowns to your hearts’ content; though that particular power-up probably won’t translate as easily into the real world.
