This toy makes us wonder if Pikachu missed a lucrative career as either a breakdancer or a strobe light by sticking around with Ash too long.
Pikachu is certainly making a return to the limelight these days, what with the recent release of the new Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go Eevee! RPGs and the first trailer for live-action film Pokémon: Detective Pikachu causing mixed reactions within the past week. Heck, even the “Surprised Pikachu” meme is currently making the rounds of the internet!
It’s all the more fitting then that Japanese Twitter user @takaokapiko recently shared a video of a unique Pikachu toy that her coworker picked up while overseas:

“The Pikachu souvenir from Taiwan that my coworker gave me is incredible. I have no words.”
What looks like a simple figurine at first glance actually turns out to be an electrifyingly fast spinning top! With the push of a button, Pikachu is on its way to the world breakdancing championships (or at least the local disco), all while humming its own catchy tune and flashing multicolored Thundershocks.
@takaokapiko posted a second message a couple of days later, after Pikachu had become Pika-pooped:

“I’ve definitely got the feeling that something about the face is wrong…the back is lacking something, too. After spinning it too much a piece of one of the lights fell off and now I can see the secret wires through the gap.”
Net users’ reactions to the toy were both thoughtful and amused:
“Well, it is an Electric-type, after all.”
“Is that a new Z-Move?”
“Shouldn’t its eyes be rounder and more childlike?”
“I wonder if they actually got permission to use Pikachu…”
“I think I would get a lot of energy from watching that when I’m tired!”
We’ll be sure to keep you updated if we spot any more strange, Tasmanian Devil-like versions of your favorite electric rodent around the world.
