Do you want to know the precise minute of your own death?
We can’t help but be intrigued by death. It’s the reason why there’s a “death cafe” in Thailand, it’s the reason why replicas of horrific death scenes intrigue us, and it’s the reason why a website that claims to use statistics and data to predict your day of death is currently trending on Japanese Twitter.
The website A Real Me has tons of quizzes to take, but one of them has recently been blowing up on Japanese Twitter: When Will I Die? The quiz asks you 20 questions based on your lifestyle, then spits out the exact year, month, and day that it predicts you will die.
▼ I took it, and apparently I will die on February 3rd, 2061.
There’s something unsettling about the exact date and countdown timer….
If you want to find out your own “death day,” you can take the quiz in English here.
The introduction to the quiz in Japanese is quite different than the English one. It’s far more cryptic. Here’s an abridged translation:
“This test is not a game. It is designed using rigorous data on human life expectancy. Do you want to know how much longer you have to live? Then just answer these questions about your lifestyle.”
The test has been exploding recently on Japanese Twitter. Here’s some reactions:
▼ Some were pleasantly surprised by their result:
“I’m going to live longer than I thought.”
▼ And others started marking their calendars:
“Looks like I’m dying the day after my 77th birthday. I guess that’s good lol.”
▼ Some treated it like a choose-your-own-adventure game:
“I chose the long-life route!” (Death day is 1/17/2117)

▼ While for others, the algorithm was surprised they weren’t already dead:
“Almost there….” (They have 5 hours to live.)
▼ And for at least one person, it was a wake up call to get to work!
“Welp, guess I better get finding those dragon balls.”
At the end of the day, the test is just for fun. It’s impossible to know exactly when anyone will die. Every day, there’s a chance you might get sick, get hit by a bus, or succumb to the many lethal dangers of clipping your nails at night.
But still, if you take the test, don’t be surprised if a certain date on the calendar starts to bring with it a small sense of dread.
