Being rude here is going to cost you.
In the near future, fully-automated restaurants may become the norm. But for now, they’re still staffed by human beings with feelings… feelings that often get ignored and abused by customers.
But one Japanese pub has taken the best step we’ve seen to reducing the number of rude customers. How do they do it? Simple: by charging them more.
Japanese Twitter user @gin_shiru posted a photo of the shop’s menu:
▼ “I like this.”

“Yo! Beer!” — 1,000 yen
“Bring me a beer.” — 500 yen
“Excuse me. One beer please.” — 380 yenCustomers are NOT GOD. Also, the staff at our pub are NOT THEIR SLAVES.
At our pub, everyone is a valuable slave treasure.
Thank you for your cooperation. With love from Konro-ya
Oh boy, just reading that made my past self who used to work retail crack a smile.
There’s nothing worse than having to deal with obnoxious customers, but actually charging them more for their behavior makes it all a little more bearable.
▼ Here’s a photo of the outside of the pub.
Yup, it looks basically just like we expected.
Here’s how Japanese Twitter reacted to the pub sign:
“I wish all of Japan’s restaurants did this.”
“Oh geez, with the way I usually order, they’d probably charge me 10,000 yen lol.”
“Don’t forget to say ‘thank you’ when you pay for the meal too!”
“Do you get a discount if you’re even more extra polite?”
“‘I’m so sorry to ask while you’re so busy, but if you don’t mind, might I be able to please order a beer? Oh, please don’t rush, whenever you’re able to bring it is perfectly fine.’ I wonder how much that would cost me?”Sponsored Link
It also seems like this pub isn’t the only place that does this kind of thing. Another Twitter user posted this picture of a menu from a cafe in France:
▼ “A coffee” — 7 euros
“A coffee, please” — 4.25 euros
“Hello, a coffee please” — 1.40 euros
No matter where you are in the world, politeness can go a long way. Even if you’re having a bad day, taking it out on restaurant staff will not help at all. In fact, it may ending up costing you… literally.
Although we do have to wonder now, how much would one of these places charge if you showed up there naked?
