Ready to satisfy your inner panda?
With a wide variety of flavorful soup bases to choose from, Japan’s ramen is already delicious as it is. But like most food, one of the answers to making the country’s national noodle dish even more spectacular is to add crazy amounts of toppings.
Japanese Twitter user @matsujun5213 seemed to have found one ramen shop in Nagoya that does just that, allowing customers to gorge themselves full on succulent bamboo shoots.

“There’s a ramen store called Koyoken in Showa-ku in Nagoya City, and they have a ramen with over 50 super thick bamboo shoots in there.
The thing was so heavy with them that it took a lot of work to even reach the noodles.
These were hand-picked bamboo shoots of the highest grade sourced from other countries. Both the topping and ramen were delicious, and even with so many bamboo shoots, you won’t get sick of it.”

Although bamboo shoots are an acquired taste for some people, it’s a healthy and nutritious vegetable and a common topping in ramen stores. For fans of the panda’s favorite snack, Koyoken’s offering is like a match made in heaven.
▼ Here’s a video of Koyoken serving up a bowl (1,100 yen, US$10).
Japanese netizens were divided over the massive amount of bamboo shoots:
“That’s quite a lot of dietary fiber!”
“That isn’t bamboo shoot ramen. It’s just a huge serving of bamboo shoots.”
“It looks delicious!”
“Koyoken’s fantastic! I want to go there again.”
“Looks bad to me.”
Ramen lovers with a soft spot for bamboo shoot toppings owe it to themselves to make a trip down to Koyoken. And, if you crave a little more variety, we suggest trying another awesome ramen store that offers side dishes and unlimited toppings for absolutely free.
